Indulge in an evening of sweet music when The Gingerbread House at Katoomba presents a decadent blend of luxurious chocolate and richly layered cello strains.
The Cello & Chocolate series is the result of a partnership between the multi award-winning Leura-based Josophan’s Fine Chocolates and renowned Blue Mountains cellist Georg Mertens.
Georg will perform evening concerts at Josophan’s newest venture The Gingerbread House Katoomba, and the evening will be made even sweeter with chocolate indulgence.
Having toured Sweden, France, Austria and Germany, Georg immigrated to Australia in 1985, working as a university lecturer in music.
He is well known for his extraordinary cello performances once conducted in Jenolan Caves.
At the first Cello & Chocolate performance on Saturday, August 23, Georg will perform solo cello including Bach’s Suite No 1 & Saint‐Saens: The Swan.
Georg will be accompanied by a violinist on Friday, September 26, with the duo playing Baroque and gypsy music.
He will perform cello solo Suites by J.S. Bach on October 29 and, on November 22, it will all be about Vivaldi with a cello duo.
Gingerbread House owner Jodie Van Der Velden said guests would be greeted at the Gingerbread House with a shot of Josophan’s legendary hot chocolate on arrival and indulge in a Josophan’s chocolate dessert during intermission.
“The extraordinary acoustics of the Gingerbread House building, which was previously a church, projects the music incredibly throughout,’’ she said.
“With a chocolate gift to take home, the night ends sweet.’’
